
Sara L. Johnson, PhD
Dr. Sara L. Johnson (she/her) is an associate professor of chemistry in the Department of Chemistry and Physics at the University of North Alabama. As a chemistry education researcher, she explores how biochemistry students develop scientific literacy and learn to communicate as scientists. Additionally, her work focuses on identifying and removing barriers to inclusion in scientific spaces such as classrooms and professional conferences. Dr. Johnson holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry (Chemistry Education) from Purdue University, and a master’s and bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern Mississippi. As a first-generation college graduate from rural south Mississippi, she is driven by the emancipatory power of education to transform people and communities.
